Emotional eating is very common and with so much going on in day-to-day life, it’s understandable why humans learn to turn to food for comfort or as a reward.

  • We will help you:
  • Identify what is triggering you to eat such as specific emotions, a particular activity, time of the day, person or location
  • Develop practical effective strategies to minimise emotional eating and food cravings
  • Get back in touch with recognising early signs of hunger and fullness (these are different in different people) and slow down your eating, so you get more enjoyment from food and feel in control around food.

Pre-surgery Rapid Weight Loss and Post Surgery Recovery Nutrition

  • Have you been recommended by your surgeon or your GP to lose weight prior to surgery?

Weight-loss prior to surgery is often recommended to reduce the amount of fat around the vital organs, known as visceral fat as this fat is a physical barrier to the surgery, which can make the surgery more difficult and increase the risk of surgical complications. Visceral fat can also interfere with the normal functioning of the joints increasing chronic disease risk and need for joint replacement.

  • Your nutrition expert will work with you to design a personalised nutritionally balanced diet to promote fat loss, which will be developed based on your timeframe to surgery, amount of weight loss recommended by your surgeon/GP and your personal preferences.
  • Your personalised approach will be developed to ensure you are receiving the nutrition required so your body is prepared for the stress of surgery.
  • Our university-qualified nutritionists and dietitians work closely with your GP and surgeon during this time.

Your nutrition expert will also provide you with recommendations to assist with your recovery post-surgery and work with you post-surgery towards either further weight loss or weight maintenance, depending on your personal goals and circumstances.

  • Finally, a healthy eating approach that is sustainable for the long-term and personalised to your food likes and dislikes and preference for number of meals and snacks will be developed.

  • Have you been diagnosed with prostate cancer?

Carrying extra weight is a strong risk factor for advanced prostate cancer. Weight-loss prior to surgery is often recommended to reduce the amount of fat around the vital organs, known as visceral fat as this fat is a physical barrier to the surgery, which can make the surgery more difficult and increase the risk of surgical complications. Visceral fat can also interfere with the normal functioning of the body increasing chronic disease risk.

  • Your nutrition expert will work with you to design a personalised nutritionally balanced diet to promote fat loss, and to reduce cancer risk progression. The approach will be based on your treatment approach- surgery, radiation or monitoring.

Bariatric Surgery

Are you considering bariatric surgery? Perhaps you have already made this big decision and have a surgery date set? Have been recommended by your surgeon or your GP to lose weight? Your bariatric nutritionist will work with you to design a personalised nutritionally balanced diet to promote fat loss, which will be developed based on your timeframe to surgery, amount of weight loss recommended by your surgeon and your personal preference. Your personalised approach will be developed to ensure you are receiving the nutrition required so your body is prepared for the stress of surgery. Our university-qualified nutritionists and dietitians work closely with your GP and surgeon during this time.
